DIY sink outlet cleaner for Buddys Frugal Friday.

Do you ever have problems with blocked or slow running sinks, wash hand basins or showers? If you do then don’t pour environmentally unfriendly bleach or those expensive canned foaming cleaners down them.

First get some bicarbonate of soda and pour some down the offending outlet, next follow this up with some vinegar and quickly place you hand over the outlet and your other hand over any overflow outlet the sink, basin, or shower has and wait for the resulting chemical reaction to clear the blockage. Effective, environmentally safe and very, very cheap

Okay, I'll try it on the kitchen sink. I worry about what happens to all those potent chemicals when we pour them down the drain. Thanks.

I follow this up with a kettle of hot water poured down after the soda and vinegar sits awhile.

Wow - this is info I can really use! Bicarbonate of soda - is this a grocery store or a drug store purchase?

Hi Alex,

I also buy it as baking Soda in my local supermarket.

PS. I'm a caulking freak as well!

I didn't realize bicarbonate of soda and baking soda were the same thing.

Something else I could have added to "My Oda to Bakin’ Soda" poem in December...
